Piano Lamps

A piano lamp is a small kind of adjustable lamp that you can place on top of a piano. Piano lamps tend to be very light, and the ones that are used today, unlike an antique piano lamp, use electrical lighting elements and are the closest in their appearance and form to desk lamps. Just as desk lamps tend to have adjustable arms or elements that you can move around freely, piano lamps have the same kind of adjustability with the lighting element set off from the base of the lamp. There are even clamp piano lamps just as there are some kinds of clamp desk lamps (and some piano lamps are marketed as piano desk lamps that can easily be used for either purpose of lighting); the idea is simply to provide the kind of control with a lamp for piano that you can use to focus on whatever part of the piano keyboard that you like without having to spend a lot of time thinking about the lighting.

Antique piano lamps are rarely so adjustable and an antique brown piano lamp or brass piano lamp is more similar to a kind of small table lamp with the goal of the lamp's design being to cast a fairly even light over the whole of the piano keyboard so adjustment or movement of the piano lamp is not necessary. Piano lamps are sometimes used in this form but today the old brass piano lamps or rustic black piano lamp designs have largely been passed over in favor of the more contemporary and utilitarian designs that simply make it easier to see a specific section of the keyboard and to play the music that you want with the minimum amount of worrying about lighting.

Piano lamps can be purchased from any kind of lighting catalog. In many cases, as stated above, it is simple enough to adapt a standard desk lamp for the purpose of lighting your piano, as both kinds of lamps are both easily adaptable and comparatively light. At a large music store that features pianos you may be able to find lights that are marketed specifically as piano lights and which have padded bases to prevent the stands of the lamps from scratching or otherwise marring the glossy surface of the top of the piano. I hope that you are able to find the best kind of piano lamp for playing your music and that you can put it to good use.
