Emergency Lighting
Emergency lighting can refer to several kinds of lighting that are used in situations when other forms of power are out. Emergency lights don't only have to be used in an emergency; the kind of lights that we think of as emergency lighting are often just called that because they are self powered or because they run on the special "emergency" power supply that kicks in automatically if power is cut to the rest of the building. The kinds of lights that comes under the heading of emergency lighting are usually very basic white incandescent or fluorescent bulbs (for their low power consumption) that are placed along the interior hallways of buildings (in areas that would otherwise go dark in the event of power outage) and make it possible for people to find their way out of the building if there is any kind of emergency and the power goes out.
There are also various kinds of vehicle emergency lights; these usually refer to warning lights for emergency vehicles and other emergency vehicle lights such as emergency vehicle strobe lights. Emergency vehicle lighting uses special emergency lighting batteries (as do the emergency lighting systems that are used in buildings). These batteries which are able to power emergency car lights and emergency strobe lights are designed with an eye towards long term reliability. An emergency lighting battery has to be able to keep its charge for months, even years without having to be replaced, and to be able to switch on at a moment's notice whenever it is required.
LED emergency lights have become more popular in recent years because the power drain required for running LED lights has gone down with more sophisticated methods of LED manufacture and design. Emergency plug in lights are lights that you can place in your house that do not activate while there is a charge present on the circuit that they are plugged into, but which turn on (using their charged battery power) when the power goes off. The common emergency exit light is either an exit sign that runs its internal incandescent / fluorescent light off of the emergency power supply or is self powered with an internal battery. Every one of these lighting options gives you the ability to see what you are doing during a crisis or emergency situation and helps to make the lives of many people around the world safer.
