Dimmer Switches

Dimmer switches - what is a dimmer switch? A dimmer lamp switch is a variable switch (sometimes it comes in the form of a slider that you move along a strip, sometimes it comes in the form of dimmer switch knobs that you can turn) that is used to smoothly vary the amount of current that is fed to electrical lights. By turning a lamp dimmer switch up and down you can change the light level in the room to whatever value you want in between the maximum light level and the lowest level (the off position). A 3 way dimmer switch is somewhat more complicated, and dimmer switches can be designed that have multiple position settings to vary between and which simultaneously control the variable light level from multiple lights in a room. This kind of wiring is very unusual however and in the great majority of cases dimmer switches are found in the form of the simple dimmer switch toggler.

Besides installing ceiling fans with dimmer switches or setting up the lights for rooms in your home with dimmer switches, dimmer switches have lots of other uses. You can use a car head lights dimmer switch to smoothly change between high intensity head lights on your car and the low intensity lights (although this is comparatively uncommon for cars). You can use an instrument cluster dimmer switch on a mixing panel in order to bring up or bring down the level of volume produced by certain instruments being recorded in a studio recording setting. You can use dimmer switches to run a dimmer energy lamp with a low switch to help conserve power when you are not in need of the full energy of the light and you want to save energy to lower your electricity bill or help the environment.

A popular brand of lamp that uses a dimmer switch is the Gio table lamp with rotary dimmer switch. A dimmer Gio lamp with rotary switch for the table lets you set the perfect mood for your meals and create an elegant atmosphere no matter what the rest of the lighting in your home is like. A dinner lamp for the table can use either a rotary switch that is rotated to vary the amount of current or an inline switch that slides along a simple back and forth path. In either case, dimmer switches give you the added control to be able to say exactly how much light you want to use and how much electricity you want to use as well.
